A try-umphant week for Ladies Rugby in this week’s Sports Round Up!

There was an epic success for the Edinburgh University Ladies Rugby Football Club (EULRFC) this week. The EULRFC 1s played away to against Durham University 1s and came out on top, winning 22-15, against a strong opposition. Not only does this make the team unbeaten in the BUCS Premier North League, but they also managed to pick up every single bonus point. They won the league with 50/50 points which is a huge achievement for the team! In addition, the 2s played Edinburgh Napier 1s. and after a heavy defeat earlier in the season, the team managed to win this time round with a solid score of 10-5.

A week of highs and lows for Edinburgh University Badminton Club (EUBC) with EUBC 1s (mixed) having the match of the year against the Scottish 1A league leaders, the University of Strathclyde 1s, winning with an impressive score of 9-3. EUBC 2s, unfortunately, lost 7-5 in a tough match against the University of Glasgow 1s. EUBC also had teams in the BUCS Trophy and Championship this week with EUBC 1s (men’s) facing a tough encounter against Loughborough University 2nds, resulting in a 4-4 draw and coming down to a 9-8 victory in sets for Loughborough. The Premier Ladies had a similarly tough match against the University of Exeter 1sts which also ended in a 4-4 draw and resulted in an 11-9 set win for the opposition.

There may only be a few matches left for Edinburgh University Netball Club (EUNC) this season; however, they are leading in BUCS Scottish Divisions 1, 2, 5 and 7. EUNC 3s produced a convincing, 47-27, home win against University of Stirling 1s and EUNC 4s continued the great home form with a 35-29 win over the University of Aberdeen 1s. EUNC 5s sadly lost a tightly contested away match against Glasgow Caledonian University 1s, with a score of 32-28. The 6s won their home match by the closest of margins 31-30 against Stirling 2s and EUNC 7s had an intense match against their rivals from the same club the 8s, which the 7s won with a 46-23 score.

It was another winning week for Edinburgh University Basketball Club (EUBC). Firstly, the women’s 2s remained undefeated in league, securing their 9th win of the season as they beat the University of Strathclyde 1s, 72-50. Despite another close game, the men’s 3s came away with a 73-71 win over the University of Glasgow 2s. EUBC women’s 3s also continued their undefeated streak this season by beating Glasgow 2s, 70-23. Lastly, the men’s 1s earned what is probably their most impressive victory of their very successful season, beating Sheffield Hallam University 1s, 75-62, to advance to the quarter finals of the BUCS Trophy.

Edinburgh University Women’s Hockey Club was back with a full week of matches with the improved weather. It was a sensational 10-1 win for the EUWHC 7s against Cala 4s, and EUWHC 4s unbeaten run continues as they progress into the semi-final of the BUCS Cup with a 1-0 win over University of Aberdeen 1s and an additional 4-1 win against Cala 1s. EUWHC 3s beat University of Stirling 1s 6-0 in a convincing manner, and the 8s had the same score in their match against Kelso 1s. Back to back games against University of St. Andrews 3s was always going to be tough for the 5s but after a disappointing 2-1 loss in St. Andrews earlier in the week, the 5s played them off the park on our home turf winning in a spectacular form 5-1. The final match of the week was the 9s, who lost 5-2 in their match against Watsonians 1s.

In the penultimate match in the BUCS Premier North League for the 2017/18 season for the Edinburgh University Futsal Club, Edinburgh needed a win to stay in contention for the title against Futsal giants Northumbria University. The match was very close with a last minute save for a 6-5 win for Edinburgh, securing those 3 points, and a chance to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
