Album: Eskimo Snow by Why?

It’s an oft-repeated cliché that Eskimos have fifty-plus words in their lexicon to refer to snow. The title of this album then would seem somewhat appropriate, given that Why? are a band prone to making music that it would seem impossible to categorise using any single musical term or classification.

It's all too much

They were everywhere. Staring back at you with those silly grins as you opened up your newspaper, gazing at you through shop windows as you walked down the street and even laughing at you as you got on the bus. Here, there and everywhere. Beatlemania was back. But the sound of screaming girls had been replaced by that of droning critics, clamouring to pour their most nauseating praise on what is already the most praised band ever. So here is a stab at the inevitable backlash.

Album: Monsters of Folk
Music

Musical supergroups, like Scientology, should always be approached with caution. However, if you put together four already musically incestuous friends, how bad can it be? Not bad at all is the answer if you’re talking about new band Monsters of Folk, which features members of top modern Americana acts Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket and M. Ward. In terms of music, they offer nothing new – country rock and folk – but boy do they do the good old stuff well.
