Attention, freshers!
Music

As you work your way through the mountain of flyers you’ve had forced upon you, it’s difficult to know which music venues to spend your ever-dwindling student loan on. Whether you want to catch live shows from upcoming bands, or simply find a nightclub that won’t play that song you hate, let us give you a helping hand.

THE PICTURE HOUSE: Located on Lothian Road, this recently refurbished venue plays host to some great live music as well as some very cheap indie clubnights.

THE CAVES: With only a handful of events on per year this wonderfully atmospheric place is brilliant, yet expensive.

CABARET VOLTAIRE: If you're into all things electro then this is the place for you. Renowned DJs play regularly and they also have massively popular clubnights.

THE BONGO CLUB: An extremely popular club which caters for a wide range of musical tastes. With dubstep and reggae one night and soul, rap and funk the next, it's best to check what's on before you go.

SNEAKY PETE'S: Found right in the heart of Cowgate, this wonderfully intimate venueis the perfect spot to see some lesser well-known bands. Great for a night out when you get sick of the inevitable crowds.

THE HIVE: Like your dance floors (and walls, and bars, and even - urgh - toilets) sticky? It's cheap and the music ranges from the good to the downright hilarious, but oh boy is it dirty.
